In the fall of 2015, generous gifts were used to purchase new property for Saint Vincent’s Centre. Referred to as “Santo 17”, the seven-acre site is located in a suburb northeast of Port-au-Prince. Surrounded by a security wall, the new property includes a large house which can be converted into a residence hall, fruit trees, and farmable land.
The architectural firm of MSAADA Architects has been hired to oversee development. Construction plans for the new site include housing for residential students, kitchen facilities, classrooms, and administrative offices.
In January 2017, board members Stan Shaffer and Bill Craddock visited Santo 17 to check on the construction progress. They were thrilled to see the changes and look forward to the final result. A blessing of the new property has been scheduled for March 8, 2017, and a formal unveiling is being planned for September. Students will begin at the new location in the fall.
Visionary donors are needed to help us reach a fundraising goal of $400,000. Funds raised will cover the cost of renovation, construction, equipment and furnishings at the new facility, as well as relocation expenses, furniture, supplies and other items to help the community establish a new home.
